On visage fair and smile unparalleled
Doth I expound in ceaseless silly pages,
Yet with most crowning compliments withheld,
My text, in truth, eclipses that of sages;
And oft compound I this cajolery
With tell of temperament robust with heart –
More steadfast these assertions could not be
If absoluteness swore I from the start.
Would’st thou, if knowledge of this tome existed,
And that my prattle were not whimsy-based,
Portend to drink in all that I’ve insisted,
Or would’st my platony befoul the taste?
To learn thy answer: such a simple task!
If only thus that question could I ask.
