The metaphor was near implosion,
A mountainside worn by erosion,
And weighed what good its life work had uncovered.
It contemplated all its actions,
A sentry shunning all distractions,
And shed a tear at what it had discovered.
A dagger cutting through confusion,
That it was never what it strived to be.
With gasping breath, it thus incanted:
“Oh would that my last wish be granted!”
And passed on like a noble simile.
