Catching Tears

(2004)

A corkscrew on the table,
A bow-tie on the bedpost.
Some photos taken just yesterday;
The smiles, they hurt the most.
A glass of champagne fallen,
The carpet, worn and stained.
Some flowers wilting in the vase,
He never once complained.

A candle burning slowly,
The wax has drowned the note:
A letter filled with intended ghosts
Of words he never wrote.
A white veil on the bed,
Still wet from catching tears.
She’ll see the doorway’s silhouette,
If the smoke ever clears.

There’s no right way to say goodbye,
There’s no right way to fall.
There’s no right way to say goodbye,
There’s no right way at all.
