A bit of a panic has embraced all of us here at www.esoderek.com when our scoopers learned that the Sonderfans are something of a rare breed - in fact, they are going extinct. While Derek himself has been kept largely in the dark about this rather frightening rumor, there is no doubt that this bit of news will do nothing but freak the willies straight out of his person. And he needs his willies, believe you me.
Word about this started when one of our scoopers stumbled on a website where you can type in your surname to discover how popular your name is. It ranks the top 55,000 surnames in our great country. When you type in "Sonderfan", you will notice that nowhere in that top 55,000 names does Sonderfan appear. That is troubling news indeed. You can try it at this website.
This problem is further compounded by the fact that, at current rate, the Sonderfan name is not looking altogether healthy. Because of a large number of uncles on the Sonderfan side of things, it had never been looked at as an imposing threat. There are, at last count, around 10 Sonderfan males between the ages of 25-50 who can hopefully do their part to increase the lineage of the proud Dutch heritage. But at last count, only one of them has children, and they were all adopted, so while the name may linger for a bit longer, it won't be of true blood. In Derek's immediate family alone, we'll just say that things don't look good for the survival of this proud surname.
If you don't think this is scary enough, let's look at some statistics (all provided by the US Census Bureau). There are an estimated 300,000,000 people in the United States. Of these, only 240,000,000 are caucasian, of which the Sonderfans most definitely are. And of these, only an estimated 120,000,000 are male which, sorry ladies, is the only gender that can carry the name. Now, according to the site above, "Mushrush" is the 53,356th most popular surname in the country. I've never met a Mushrush, though I'm truly hoping to. If I plug this information into a US Census-run site, we see that it accounts for only .00005% of the U.S. people, or about 1,250 people. And Sonderfan is not even as popular as Mushrush. That means there are probably less than 500 Sonderfans in the country today, and probably only about 200 male Sonderfans. That's a scary thought.
But don't fret, proud readers of this fine website. Hope is not lost. You can do your own environmentally-savvy best to help in the fight to stop the extinction of this clan. And you can start the sequence at home, sitting on your butt, by filling out the online Form to Date Derek, which is step one in turning back the evil hands of Darwin and his cataclysmic theories. The Sonderfan line will NOT go extinct! Join the fight, won't you!?!
