Ballet Doppleganger

Date: November 2000

Location: London, England

Description: England is part of Europe which, as Eddie Izzard put it is “where the history comes from.”  Indeed, there are countless examples of stunning architecture, exquisite art and sculpture, and, when not obscured by the United Kingdom’s hourly rainstorms, picturesque landscapes.  A decade’s worth of important artifacts are strewn about the city, and you can’t chuck a kitten without hitting something of either historical significance or understated beauty.  Of course, as Americans living there for three months (and actors to boot), our class tried our best to flex our muscles of ignorance and insolence wherever possible.  Often times, this was quite funny – especially when we were almost asked to leave the Tate Britain museum because there were too many of us doing James Brown impressions.  This picture is one example, and certainly not the best, as classmate Lico felt a certain kinsmanship with this piece of art.  You’ll notice the grace of Lico’s pose and how it sublimates the tension of the musculature all while purporting a deeper subconscious undermining of that oeuvre.  Or something like that.
