Description: Born at 2:10pm, 7 minutes before his twin brother Mitch, Derek burst into this world as he does each morning: violently awake one minute and in a deep sleep the next. Unlike many early photos, this one is not characterized by Derek’s trademark baby smile and Mitch’s trademark look of stupefaction. Also of note in this picture is the fact that, even in the 70s, hospital rooms had no charm whatsoever. Derek is on the left.
